(okay let me start by saying I know I have been MIA for a while, I am sorry there have been alot of adjustments going on with this move....I tried to stay upbeat but honestly depression got a hold of me a little as we struggled with illness my husband and I were passing something back and forth I even lost the hearing in my left ear for like three weeks I think but thankfully we have restored health, and some things are falling together for more changes, but they are good ones.)
Okay maybe some people call it dumpster diving, curb picking whatever you want to call it. My husband and I were hanging out in our present dwelling and he opens the front door and says "oooh honey look to your left do you see what I see?" I had no idea what he was talking about but in the neighbors yard in her trash pile at the curb was a nice comfy looking black recliner. We are hoping to get our own place soon, and we thought the chair would make a nice edition to our home. I told my husband go knock on her door and ask if we can take it....he was like "no way I don't do that." So I did. The lady was nice as could be, said we could take whatever we wanted from her piles, she was moving out. So I did just that and here is some of the her trash that became our "treasure"
Pictured here is the recliner with some nice pillows, a bed skirt and sham that I claimed
here are some wreaths, a movie, a nice candle holder and below a fax machine.
Not pictured are some odds and ends like a curling iron, a hair straightener, and a set of clippers (the ones a man might use to cut his hair) I also snagged a couple candles and some broken jewelry to make new things from. I was thrilled, I felt like I got some retail therapy without having to spend any money.
Aunti L also helped look, she ended up with a brand new pair of old navy flip flops and we each scored some shirts for our sons. I was a happy camper. Judge if you must but I believe God used this opportunity to meet some of needs/wants.
And we were right we are getting our own place. We found a two bedroom duplex that will fit in our budget, and allow us to live within our means. It is alot smaller then what we had, but I am excited about making it work and I look forward to sharing pictures and updates as I make our home in a new place. (oh and hubby got a full time job that he started this past Thursday!!!!)
Well, you asked her, she said yes, and you kept a bunch of stuff from going to the landfill. Sounds like a win/win! I have gotten many a thing from the curb. It seems like a lot of times people will set things on the curb expecting someone to take it-some cities have to pay for bulky trash pick up so it's saving them money too.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you didn't let that opportunity pass you by.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see you back on here. I was getting concerned with the long hiatus. Congrats on hubby's new fulltime job, your new place, and all your treasures. Sounds like things are looking up, and hopefully you are all over the sickness running thru the house. Its been a rough winter everywhere, I think.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog from the prudent homemaker blog. I LOVE your finds! That was totally a God thing! I usually only find things that are torn, broken or moldy. I did repurpose some old dresser drawer fronts into a new garden box.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I found your blog!
Hey there, I just followed you here from Prudent Homemaker. Good post. No judging here just some jealousy! Here about the only thing you ever see out for free is 80's floral couches and since it rains alot....they're usually wet too. I have rarely seen anything worth stopping for but I can assure you if I did I'd be on it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful that the items get used and don't end up at the dump/landfill/tip. Good for you.
And congratulations on the new "house".
Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments on this post. We should prayerfully be able to start using our new curbside finds beginning Friday. We couldn't believe we found that recliner it is totally comfy....like it is holding you...it will be the perfect chair when I am under the weather. I love the prudent homemaker blog...she really is an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to find some things that were of use to you...I like knowing that people can find uses for things I don't need anymore:) Thanks for linking up to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party. I have pinned your post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board.
